Workflow

№ 03 — Method
A MIDI file is a timeline of musical instructions: note numbers, start ticks, durations, velocity, tracks and control events. It does not directly contain the note spelling, rests, beams or voices that a printed score needs. Miditor first reads the local MIDI data, selects the track you want to inspect, and converts the track's tick positions into measures using the file's pulses-per-quarter-note value and time signature.
Notation needs deliberate rhythmic values, so the workspace applies a selectable quantization grid. A 1/16 grid is a practical starting point for ordinary melodies; 1/32 preserves more detail, while 1/8 or 1/4 can make a loose performance easier to read. Notes are grouped into chords when they begin together, gaps become rests, and notes crossing a bar are connected with ties. The staff is then drawn from the resulting note and rest values in the browser.
This is why the result should be treated as a useful first draft rather than an automatic engraving service. The current preview is intentionally focused on one selected track and a single voice. For dense arrangements, changing meters, tuplets or independent piano voices, open the online MIDI editor to simplify the part first. You can also play the MIDI file online to compare the notation with the original performance before exporting.

Performance MIDI often contains small timing deviations that sound natural but create awkward notation if every tick is copied literally. Quantization gives the renderer a manageable rhythmic vocabulary. It changes the visual interpretation, not the original MIDI file; your source stays untouched and can be reopened with different settings.

No. Miditor reads the MIDI file in your browser. The normal notation workflow does not upload your source file, and no account is required.
Not for every MIDI. MIDI stores performance events rather than a complete written score, so the converter quantizes timing and makes a practical single-voice preview. Review complex piano, tuplets, changing meters and expressive performances before printing.
Melody, bass and other mostly single-line tracks produce the clearest result. You can switch tracks in the workspace; percussion and dense multi-voice arrangements may need cleanup in the MIDI editor first.
Not yet. The current release exports a high-density PNG and supports browser printing to PDF. MusicXML is a later interoperability target once notation review and voice handling are more complete.
Load and review the score, select Print / PDF, then choose “Save as PDF” in your browser's print dialog. The print view hides the controls and keeps the notation canvas.
