How to Play and Inspect a MIDI File
- Choose a file. Open a local .mid or .midi file, or select a track from the curated catalog.
- Start playback. Use play, pause, seek and volume controls while the SoundFont engine interprets the song's note and instrument data.
- Follow the arrangement. Watch the falling-piano or piano-roll view to see active notes and how individual tracks fit together.
- Focus on a part. Mute tracks you do not need or solo one track to hear its role more clearly.
- Practice a passage. Reduce playback speed or set a precise BPM, then place A and B loop points around the section you want to repeat.

Online MIDI player questions
Do my MIDI files leave my device?
No. Miditor parses the MIDI file and schedules playback locally in your browser. The file is not uploaded to Miditor, and Recent files are stored only in this browser so you can reopen them quickly.
Can I slow down a MIDI song for practice?
Yes. Choose a playback speed from 0.5× to 2× or enter a BPM between 30 and 240. Set A and B at the current playhead positions to repeat one section without modifying the original MIDI file.
Can I use the MIDI player without importing a file?
Yes. Browse the live curated catalog through trending selections, easy pieces, a random mix, or filters by instrument, style and composer. Each record keeps its license and source URL; review the MIDI track licenses page before reusing or redistributing a file.
Why can MIDI playback sound different from a recording?
A MIDI file stores notes, timing and instrument instructions rather than recorded sound. The selected SoundFont interprets those instructions, so its instruments may sound different from the synthesizer used for another recording.
Can I extract one instrument track?
The player can mute or solo tracks for listening. To create a new MIDI containing selected material, continue in the MIDI editor; to create audio stems, use the MIDI converter's track export controls.
