What an AI MIDI generator does

Most AI music tools today generate audio — a finished recording you can listen to but not change in any meaningful way. An AI MIDI generator takes a different path. You describe what you want in plain language: a mood, a tempo, an instrument, a chord progression, a length. The model returns structured MIDI data — note numbers, start times, durations, velocities, tracks and tempo changes — that represents your description as editable music.

That distinction matters. A generated audio file is an endpoint. Generated MIDI is a starting point. You can open it in a piano roll, move a wrong note, swap the instrument, extend the chorus, change the key, or split the part across two hands. The AI handles the first draft; you keep full creative control over everything that follows.

How text-prompt MIDI generation is planned to work

  1. Write a prompt. Describe the music you want — style, instrumentation, tempo, length and any musical constraints. The more specific the description, the more useful the first draft.
  2. Generate variations. Create one or more structured MIDI candidates from the same prompt so you can compare directions before committing to one.
  3. Open in the editor. Load the generated MIDI directly in Miditor's piano roll and arrangement view to revise, re-instrument or extend the piece.
  4. Export your result. Save a standard MIDI file for use in another application, or render the finished arrangement as WAV or MP3 audio.

The intended workflow keeps generation and editing in the same local-first environment. Your prompts and generated note data stay on your device — nothing needs to leave the browser to produce a usable musical draft.

Current research is focused on producing musically coherent, editable output rather than simply generating notes. The goal is a tool that gives you a genuine starting point you can finish — not a black box that hands you a file and disappears.

What is an AI MIDI generator?

An AI MIDI generator turns a text description — such as 'a gentle piano ballad in C major at 72 BPM' — into structured MIDI data. Unlike text-to-audio tools that produce a finished waveform, a MIDI generator outputs editable notes, tracks, tempo and controller events that you can open in a piano roll and revise by hand.

How is this different from generating audio?

Audio generation produces a fixed recording. MIDI generation produces instructions — which notes to play, when, how loud and on which instrument — so every result can be edited, rearranged or re-instrumented. Miditor's goal is editable MIDI output, not flattened audio.

Can I use the generated MIDI in other software?

The aim is standard MIDI output that opens in any DAW, notation editor or hardware sequencer. Because the output is editable note data, it should travel with your project rather than locking you into one application.
